In the eight years of marriage, this has certainly been a rough one on my wife and I. As I mentioned in the last post, we would have loved to have bought the kids all the toys they wanted. Fortunately, our families did buy the kids a lot of toys. Tomorrow is the last day of 2007. I/we have some big hurdles ahead of us, but I feel 2008 will be a new start for us.

I’m a big believer in goals. I create an action item list every day and always have a few goals listed at the very bottom. I have a picture of a check that someone received from Google, printed over my desk. Those ads you see around websites (and mine), pay money when you click on them. Not a lot, but it helps. That’s my goal.

I realized something yesterday; we’re going into 2008 with no “us” goals. I mentioned to my wife that we really need to sit down and focus on our goals for 2008, starting with “spend more time with the kids”. So for today, I’ve locked myself in my office and I’m making a list of all things I’d love for us to accomplish this year.

In no particular order (well except for the first two):

  • Spend more quality time with the kids
  • Have us time, at least twice a month. It doesn’t need to be a dinner or anything expensive. A walk on the beach, in the mall or anything would do. I feel we need more us time.
  • Complete the bankruptcy
  • Save money – Amount to be determined once the bankruptcy is completed. I’d be happy with $10 per check. Just to see money going into an account again, will be amazing for me.
  • Walk the dog – Seems like a silly goal, I know… but it’s one that I/we don’t do enough. Walking the dog clears my head and gives me some time alone. Also gives me a chance to socialize with the neighbors.

That’s all I have, for now. I have others, but they’re not “us” goals. So I’ve left them out. I would like to hear from anyone that reads this blog, I’d love to know what your goals are. As you might have figured out by now, I’m new to this bankruptcy thing, so any advice you are willing to share, will be greatly appreciated.

That’s it for now, Happy New Year’s everyone!

Beautifully written. Goals in our family are everything to us.

So? What are your goals? What did the two of you come up with?
